Transport and travel in Bulgaria


The transportation sector in Bulgaria is dominated by road, with a globally low quality of roads. The country had 774 kilometers of highways in 2015. Buses and coaches play a important role, but also share taxis in the countryside.

The Railway network is improving but remain outdated, with a low average speed.

The national railways company is BDŽ and the flag carrier is Bulgaria Air. A number of private companies also exist.

Bulgaria counts several ports along the Danube and the Black Sea, including Varna and Burgas.
